Need a forum and wiki that encompasses all open map projects

There are many different open map projects (including different databases, database servers, renderers and editors). Currently the forums are fragmented between OSM talk and osm-fork google group. To foster better cooperation, it would be better to have a common forum to discuss general issues. Project specific issues should continue in existing channels. Moderation should be community lead and follow the maximum about ...more »

people are going to want to contribute in PD (separate layers)

People will want to have a public domain OSM layer for only PD data, it will be separate from the CC-BY-SA layer etc and will have rules for when data is promoted (tainted) to a different license. We will want to possibly have versions of the objects if someone copies them into a different license and changes them to track branches of objects.

Sort the planet file geographically

The OSM planet file is sorted by ID, this makes processing it cumbersom because you need to load in all the ids to know what id is in what geographic location. it would be better to sort the file by geographic location. my idea was to use a geohash as a sorting mechanism. or to use some block system. in any case some sorting would be great.
